** Despite a request conveyed through a messenger by Lord SivA to release BrahmA from Murugan's prison, Murugan refused to do so. Only after His father's personal appearance and fervent appeal, Murugan released BrahmA. As atonement for this insubordination, Murugan had to do penance at KumarakOttam in KAnchipuram and obtained the boon from His parents.
