karuvadaindhu: Being conceived in my mother's womb,

paththutra thingaL vayiRirundhu: I spent ten months over there

mutrip payindru: and developed into a full form;

kadaiyilvandh udhiththu: finally, I arrived in this world

kuzhandhai vadivAgi: as a little baby.

kazhuvi anggeduththu: They took me out, washed me

surandha mulaiyarundhu vikka: and made me suck my mother's breast for milk.

kidandhu kadhaRi: I was laid on the floor and I cried;

angai kottith thavazhndhu: I clapped my little hands; I crawled;

nadamAdi: I walked;

arivadangaL katti: I wore golden chains around my waist;

chadhangai idukudhambai: I wore chadhangai (a type of anklet) and earstuds;

poRchutti thaNdai: I put on golden ornaments and thandai (another type of anklet);

avaiyaNindhu mutRik kiLarndhu: and so adorned, I matured and grew up glowingly.

vayadhERi: I reached adulthood.

ariyapeNgaL natpaip puNarndhu: I sought the company of dear girls.

piNiyuzhandru: I suffered from numerous diseases.

sutrith thirindha dhamaiyum: Had enough of running around.

un krupai chiththam endru peRuvEnO: When will I ever get Your Gracious Blessings? (Hereafter, the Poet describes scenes from Ramayana)

iravi indhran: The Sun God (with his aspect as Sugreevan) and IndrA (with his aspect as VAli),

vetrik kurangin arasarendrum: were born as the valorous Monkey Kings;

oppatra undhi iRaivan: BrahmA, the God who came from the unique navel of Vishnu,

eNgi nakkarththa nendRum: was born as the leader of the bear dynasty (JambavAn);

neduneelan eriyadhendrum: tall Neelan was the form taken by the Fire God (Agni);

rudraR siRandha anuman endrum: RudrA (a form of SivA) came as Great HanumAn;

oppatra aNdar evarum: and all peerless DEvAs

indha vargaththil vandhu punamEva: came in this way, descending on this earth.

ariyathanpa daikkarththa rendRu: They were appointed as the leaders of His great armies,

asurarthan kiLaikkattai vendRa: and the demons (asuras), with their entire dynasties, were conquered, by

arimukundhan: Hari Mukundan (who came as Rama);

mecchutRa paNbin marugOnE: He constantly praises Your virtues; and You are His Nephew!

ayanaiyum pudaiththuch chinandhu: After punishing BrahmA* angrily,

ulagamum padaiththu: (and after imprisoning him) You took over the duty of creation in this world.

parindhu aruL parangkirikkuL: With love, You came unto ThirupparangkundRam

siRandha perumALE.: and flourish there, Oh Great One!





* Once, in Kailas, BrahmA, seeking to have the audience of SivA, went past Murugan ignoring Him. Murugan felt slighted. He stopped BrahmA and asked him to interpret the meaning of OM, the PraNava ManthrA. Being unable to explain the significance, BrahmA was punished by Murugan who later imprisoned him. Murugan then took over the duties of BrahmA, including Creation.
