"Lord Murugan is riding a male tusker, whose spotted forehead bears the scars made by the sharply-pointed-goad. The tusker's forehead is well adorned with dangling wreaths of unfading blossoms [made of gold] and a fine frontal plate; when the death- wielding yaman-like-tusker walks rapidly like the blowing of strong wind, the bells hanging on either side produce tinkling sound alternately.

Lord Murugan's sacred hair on the crowned-head is artistically arranged in five styles of thAmam, magudam, pathumam, kimpuri, and kOdagam, and adorned with gems-stones of contrasting colours, dazzling with the brightness of lightning. The finely- wrought golden magara-shaped-ear- rings of the Lord are dangling with a brightness like that of the stars that surround the lustrous moon which sheds its light even on distant earth. The effulgence of the Lord's sacred faces is perceived by the minds of the sages who carry out their penances with faultless vow ... "

"One of the Lord's sacred faces produces many sparkling splendours, so that the world, engulfed by darkignorance, may appear flawessly bright;

another sacred face of the Lord, praised by the Lord's devotees, joyfully confers on them all the gracious favours requested by them;

another sacred face of the Lord ensures that sacrificial rituals of sages, conducted in accordance with true scriptures, are not disturbed by evil forces;

another sacred face of the Lord expounds to the sages such great truths which are not revealed by true scriptures, and enlightens their minds just as the moon shows all the directions of the world;

another sacred face of the Lord annihilates the demonic forces in battle, so that the sacrificial rituals may be held on the battle-field to celebrate the victory;

another sacred face of the Lord rejoices together with the hunter's young daughter VaLLi-ammai of creeper-like-slender-waist [representing ichchA-sakthi] ... "

"Just as the six sacred faces of the Lord perform their work efficiently, so do the Lord's upraised arms, which are highly praised for their great prowess: they hurl the fiery weapons and draw them back to cleave the chests of evil foes.

Upon the Lord's wide chest are found three auspicious marks in red, which are adorned with a golden garland. Of the Lord's arms,

one points upwards to protect the sages travelling through the air towards the abode of mukthi ['salvation'] while

the other is resting on the Lord's waist;

while another arm is resting on the Lord's lap, which is adorned with fine garment;

another arm is plying the goad [over the elephant],

one arm is wielding a huge shield and

the other is hurling the lance towards the right;

while one arm is expounding real truths to sages,

while the other abides over the Lord's chest, adding beauty to the garland adorning it;

another arm waves its bangled-wrist, signaling the beginning of the sacrificial ritual on the battle-field,

while the other arm causes the bell to produce a twin-sound;

one arm makes abundant rain pour down from the clouds of the blue sky,

while the other adorns the heavenly maiden with the wedding-garland.

The twelve sacred arms of the Lord are thus well arranged to do their work conforming to the tasks which are carried out by the Lord's six sacred faces.

With the divine ['kettle-like'] drums beating, the celestial horns blaring, and the white conches blowing, and, upon the Lord's command, the peacock of many feathers emblazoned on the victorious flag, crowing to the beat of drums like the peals of thunder, it is the eternal inherent nature of the Lord to proceed rapidly through the sky-way to reach and abide at the sacred abode of ThiruchcheeralaivAi [ThiruchchendhUr], which is renowned for the greatness that is praised by all the good people of the world, not only that ...
