uRpalangaL sivanthu kuvinthida inthra kOpam oththa thoNdai thuvaNdu amutham thara: their eyes that look like the blue lily reddened and contracted; their reddish lips like the cochineal insect and the kovvai fruit withered and exuded nectar-like saliva;

mecchu thumpi karum kuyil men puRavu okka men thoni vanthu piRanthida: soft sounds of cooing of the birds like the admirable beetle, the black cuckoo and the gentle pigeon emanated from their throat;

anpu kUra mikka chanthiran onRu nilangaLil vikramam seythu ilangu nakam pada: out of overpouring love, on the brightly lit moonstone floor, they demonstrated several heroic deeds by etching their nail-marks;

maik karum kadal anRu eri maNdida mey kravunja silampu udal vempida matRu nan pathi kunRi azhinthida umpar nAdan vacchiram kai aNinthu patham peRa: The dark and wide sea caught fire that day; the mount Krouncha, possessed of demonic thoughts, was also burnt down by fire; further, the famous capital-city, MahEndrapattiNam, (of the demon SUran) was destroyed shedding all its charms; IndrA, the king of the celestials, was able to regain his kingdom holding the weapon Vajra in his hand;

mecchu kunjari kongai puyam peRa maththa vemchina vanjakar thangaLai nungum vElA: the bosom of DEvayAnai, the wonderful daughter of the celestials, hugged Your hallowed shoulders as You held in Your hand the great spear that gobbled up the lives of demons notorious for their arrogance, wild temper and treachery, Oh Lord!

kukkudam kodi koNda parampara chakra maNdalam eN thisaiyum pukazh kotka konRai aNintha siram charaN angikArA: Oh Supreme Lord, You hold the staff of the Rooster prominently in Your hand! All people around the mount ChakravaLAkam and in the eight directions extolled Your glory as You graciously accepted the worship of Your Father, Lord SivA, prostrating at Your hallowed feet placing His head wearing kondRai flower (Indian Laburnum) on the matted hair, Oh Lord!

koththu avizhntha kadampu alar thangiya mikka vangaNa kangaNa thiN puya kotRam am kuRa mangai virumpiya thambirAnE.: You constantly remain among the bunches of blossoming kadappa flowers, Oh famous Lord! You wear the triumphant shoulder belts around the hallowed shoulders! VaLLi, the damsel of the KuRavAs, known for her beauty and victory, loves You intensely, Oh Great One!
