ஸ்ரீ முருகன் ஆலயம் - ஆலய வரலாறு

வரலாற்றுச் சிறப்புமிக்க நெகிரி செம்பிலான் மாநிலத்தில் சிலியாவ் என்ற சிற்றூரில் ரயில்வே நிலத்தில் எழிலுடன் ஸ்ரீ முருகன் ஆலயம் அமைந்துள்ளது. அக்காலந் தொட்டு இங்கு வாழ்ந்து வரும் இந்துக்கள் ஆலயத்தை நன்கு பராமரித்து வருவதுடன், ₁₉₇₀-ம் ஆண்டு முதல் முருகனின் கார்த்திகை திருவிழாவை விமரிசையுடன் கொண்டாடி வருகின்றனர்.

ஆலயத்தின் வரலாற்றைப் பின் நோக்கி பார்க்கையில் நெஞ்சம் ஒருகனம் பிரமித்துப்போய் நிற்கிறது. ₁₉₆₇-ம் ஆண்டு தொடக்கத்தில் தாங்கள் குடியிருக்கும் பகுதியில் ஒரு முருகன் ஆலயம் வேண்டும் என்ற வேட்கையால் பல நல்ல உள்ளங்களின் முயற்சியால் ஒரு சிறிய கொட்டகையாக ரயில்வே நிலத்தில் தொடங்கப்பட்டது இந்த ஆலயத்தின் அஸ்திவாரம்.

அன்று மலேயன் ரயில்வே அதிகாரியாக பணியாற்றிய திரு _S. ராமையா அவர்களின் தலைமையில் நிருவப்பட்ட இந்தச் சிறிய ஆலயம், இன்று விருட்சமாக உருவெடுத்து தனது இரண்டாவது மகா கும்பாபிஷேகத்தைக் காணவிருப்பது தேனாக இனிக்கிறது.

இந்த நல்ல வேளையிலே, ஆலயத்தின் ₃₀ வருட வரலாற்றை திரும்பிப் பார்க்கையிலே திருமுருகனின் திருத்தலம் இன்றைய நிலையை அடைய அரும்பாடுபட்ட அனைத்து நல்ல உள்ளங்களுக்கும் இன்றைய ஆலய நிர்வாகம் இருகரம் கூப்பி நன்றி நவிழ்கிறது. அவர்களின் சேவை கோவிலின் வரலாற்றில் என்றென்றும் நினைவு கூறப்படும்.

பக்தர்களின் பெருக்கத்திற்கேற்ப ₁₉₆₉-ம் ஆண்டு ஆலயம் மேலும் சிறிது விரிவுப்படுத்தப்பட்டது. இந்த ₁₉₆₉-ம் ஆண்டு கோவில் விரிவுப்படுத்தும் நிகழ்ச்சி, கோவில் வரலாற்றில் மறக்க முடியாத நிகழ்ச்சியாகும். அன்றைய நிர்வாகத்தினரும் அன்பர்களும் கோவிலை விரிவுப்படுத்தும் வேலையில் அல்லும் பகலும் ஈடுபட்டிருந்த நேரம் அது. மே ₁₉₆₉-ம் ஆண்டு அதாவது மலசியாவில் ஊரடங்கு அமுலில் இருந்த காலம் அது. கோவிலின் விரிவுபடுத்தும் வேலையை உரிய காலத்தில் செய்து முடிக்க வேண்டும் என்ற வேட்கையால், இரவு ₈ மணிக்கு மேல், ஊரடங்கு நேரத்திலும் வேலையில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்த அன்பர்கள் போலீசாரால் கைது செய்யப்பட்டது மறக்க முடியாத நிகழ்ச்சியாகும்.

பிறகு ₁₉₇₀-ம் ஆண்டு மேலும் விரிவாக்கப்பட்டு 'எழுந்தருள் முருகன்' அமைக்கப்பெற்று, திருமுருகனின் கார்த்திகை திருவிழா ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டது. அதன் பிறகு ₁₉₇₄-ம் ஆண்டு முதல் ₁₉₇₆-ம் ஆண்டு வரை கார்த்திகை திருவிழாவுடன் தீமிதி திருவிழாவும் விமரிசையாக நடத்தப்பட்டது. பிறகு இடப்பற்றாக்குறையால் தீமிதி விழா கைவிடப்பட்டது. _24-4-1977-ல் தற்போது இருக்கும் ஆலயம் எழுப்பும் முயற்சி ஆரம்பிக்கப்பட்டு, முதல் கட்டமாக அன்றைய _YB பொன்னையா அவர்களின் உதவியால், ₂₀₀ லோரி மண் வழங்கப்பட்டு, கோவிலின் இடம் நிரவப்பட்டது. குருவிக்கும் ஒரு தனி கூடு வேண்டும் என்பதற்கேற்ப, ஆலயத் தலைவர் திரு _S. ராமையா அவர்களின் அரும் முயற்சியாலும், திரு _S.S. பக்கிரிசாமி அவர்களின் பேருதவியாலும், ₁₉₇₈-ம் ஆண்டு ரயில்வே நிலத்தில் கோவில் நிறுவ அனுமதி கொடுக்கப்பட்டது.

_7-4-1979-ல் கோவிலின் அடிக்கல் நாட்டு விழா, டத்தோ பத்மநாபன் தலைமையில் சிறப்பாக நடைபெற்றது. பக்தர்கள் நாட்டின் பல பகுதியிலிருந்து வந்து கலந்துக் கொண்டனர். அதன் பிறகு கோவில் கட்டி முடிக்கப்பட்டு _20-10-1984-ல் தனது முதலாவது மகா கும்பாபிஷேகத்தை ஆலயம் கண்டது. எழுந்தருளும் முருகனுக்கு ஒரு ரதம் வேண்டும் என்ற தேவைக்கேற்ப இந்திய சிற்பிகளால் ரதம் உருவாக்கப்பட்டு _30-11-1987-ல் ரத வெள்ளோட்டம் சிறப்பாக நடந்தேறியது.

கோவிலின் வரலாற்றில் பல நல்ல நினைவு கூறும் நிகழ்ச்சிகள் நடந்தவண்ணமே இருந்தன. அவற்றில் பல சமயச் சாண்றோர்களின் வருகை குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. அவற்றில் மையமாக அமைந்தது மறைந்த முருக பக்தர் கிருபானந்தவாரியாரின் வருகையாகும். அவர் _27-2-1987-ல் ஆலயத்திற்கு வருகை தந்து ஸ்ரீ முருகப்பெருமானை பற்றிய சொற்பொழிவுகளை ஆற்றி ஆலயத்திற்கு மேலும் பெருமை சேர்த்தார். கடந்த _6-7-1997-ல் பால ஸ்தாபனம் கண்ட எங்கள் ஸ்ரீ முருகன் வரும் _20-10-1997-ல் தனது ₂வது மகா ஜீர்ணோர்த்தாரண அஷ்டபந்தன கும்பாபிஷேகத்தை காண நாள் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளது. ஆலய வளர்ச்சிக்கு பலவகையில் உதவிய அனைத்து தரப்பினருக்கும் இருகரம் கூப்பி நன்றி நவில்கிறோம். அத்துடன் திருமுருகனின் திருவருள் அனைவருக்கும் கிட்டுமாறு பிரார்த்திக்கின்றோம்.

History of the Temple
(extracted from the Maha Kumbabishegam Magazine of 10-10-1997).

Situated about 5 kilometers off from the Seremban - Port Dickson main road, is the small town of Siliau in the historic state of Negeri Sembilan. Approaching the town through the narrow winding road lined by rubber plantations is the all auspicious temple of Sri Murugan. This temple radiating great compassion and grace is built on a railway reserve land. The temple has found great support from the neighbouring Hindu community which since 1970 has been dedicatedly celebrating the temple's annual Thirukarthigai festival.

Looking back at the early begnnings of the temple, one can only feel awe. Out of the sincere desire of the residents for a place for communal worship of Lord Sri Murugan and the cooperation of love filled devotees, a small shrine was built on the railway reserve land.

Under the august leadership, great devotion and a magnanimous heart for service of the then Malayan Railways Permanent Way Inspector Sri S. Ramiah, the shrine was established. Today, from the humble beginings of a small shrine, the temple has come to celebrate its second Maha Kumbabhishegam. What honeyed sweetness this brings to our hearts to know the coming fruition of this sacred and compassionate effort. A fruition that came about through the grace of Lord Sri Murugan and the ardent love of god of the founder Sri S. Ramiah. His great love and devotion to Lord Sri Murugan still sustains the temple today.

In this auspicious circumstances, looking back at Lord Sri Murugan temple's 30 year history and its present growth, the temple's present governing committee can only join hands in respectful and grateful adoration of all the kind hearted devotees who have worked so hard to raise the temple to its present stature.

In line with the increase in the devotees coming to the shrine in 1969 extension works were initiated. This year was also a memorable year in the temple's history. The devotees were struggling day and night to complete the extension works. It was the time of the sad May 1969 riots in the country and curfew had been imposed nationwide to contain the tragedy. The devotees' dedication to complete the works on time resulted in they working beyond 8 pm. within the temple's precincts. However they were arrested by the police only to be released subsequently once the police understood the work they were involved in.

Later in 1970 the shrine underwent further extension works and the celebration of the annual Thiru Karthigai Theebam festival for Lord Sri Murugan also started. Further between 1974 to 1976 the temple also during the time of the annual festival used to celebrate the "Fire Walking Ceremony" for devotees. This ceremony had to be discontinued due to the scarcity of space. On the 24th of April 1977 efforts were made to start work on the existing temple buildings. With the help of the then YB Ponniah of Seremban, two hundred lorry loads of earth was donated to help fill-up the land for temple construction. "Even a sparrow deserves its own home" and with that inspiration our temple chairman, Sri S. Ramiah's dedicated efforts and with the help of Mr. S.S. Pakirisamy, Malayan Railways granted permission to construct the temple on their railway reserve land.

On the 7th of April 1979 Datuk Pathmanaban graced the temple's foundation stone laying ceremony. Devotees from various parts of the country came to grace this auspicious occasion. Subsequently the temple construction was completed and on 20th October 1984 the temple celebrated its consecration First Maha Kumbabishegam. To further benefit the sincere devotees in the area, of the ever radiating compassion and grace of Lord Sri Murugan, the temple had a chariot made by craftsmen from India. On 30th of November 1987, Lord Sri Murugan was taken around in His Chariot for the benefit of His devotees.

The temple continued to have many memorable occassions one of which was when the late great Lord Murugan devotee Sri Kirubananda Variar graced the temple on 27th February 1987 and spoke at length in the temple of the greatness of our Lord Sri Murugan.

Recently on the 6th of July 1997, the temple saw the "Bala Sthabinam" ceremony and 20th October 1997 has been fixed as the date to perform the temple reconsecration Maha Kumbabishegam ceremony.

The temple committee wishes to join its hands in respectful gratitude to the founder Sri S. Ramiah and to all devotees and well wishers who continue to lend their support for the continued growth of this very sacred Lord Sri Murugan Temple. We humbly worship that our Lord Sri Murugan's grace will reach all living beings so their lives will be transformed into all auspiciousness.
