     தோகை பங்க ரோடு சூது ...... மொழிவோனே

பாத கங்கள் வேறி நூறி நீதி யின்சொல் வேத வாய்மை

நீரும் என்பு தோலினாலும் ஆவது என் கை கால்களோடு ... நீர், எலும்பு, தோல் இவைகளால் ஆக்கப்பட்டதாகிய என்னுடைய கை, கால்கள் இவைகளோடு,

நீளும் அங்கமாகி மாய உயிர் ஊறி ... நீண்ட அங்கங்களை உடையவதாகி, மாயமான உயிர் ஊறப் பெற்று,

நேசம் ஒன்று தாதை தாயர் ஆசை கொண்ட போதில் மேவி ... அன்பு பொருந்திய தந்தை தாய் ஆகிய இருவரும் காதல் கொண்ட சமயத்தில் கருவில் உற்று,

நீதி ஒன்று பாலனாகி அழிவாய் வந்து ... ஒழுக்க நெறியில் நிற்கும் பிள்ளையாய்த் தோன்றி, அழிதற்கே உரிய வழியில் சென்று,

ஊரும் இன்ப வாழ்வும் ஆகி ஊனம் ஒன்று இலாது ... அனுபவிக்கும் இன்ப வாழ்வை உடையவனாகி, குறை ஒன்றும் இல்லாமல்,

மாதரோடு சிந்தை வேடை கூர உறவாகி ... மாதர்களுடன் மன வேட்கை மிக்கு எழ, அவர்களுடன் சம்பந்தப்பட்டு,

ஊழி இயைந்த கால (ம்) மேதியோனும் வந்து பாசம் வீச ... ஊழ் வினையின்படி ஏற்பட்ட முடிவு காலத்தில் எருமை வாகனனான யமனும் தவறாமல் வந்து பாசக் கயிற்றை வீச,

ஊன் உடம்பு மாயும் மாயம் ஒழியாதோ ... (இந்த) மாமிச உடல் அழிந்து போகும் மாயம் முடிவு பெறாதோ?

சூரன் அண்ட லோகம் மேன்மை சூறை கொண்டு போய் விடாது ... சூரன் அண்டங்களாம் லோகங்களின் மேலான தலைமையைக் கொள்ளை அடித்துப் போய் விடாமல்,

தோகை யின்கண் மேவி வேலை விடும்வீரா ... மயிலின் மேல் ஏறி வேலாயுதத்தைச் செலுத்திய வீரனே,

தோளில் என்பு மாலை வேணி மீது கங்கை சூடி ஆடு ... தோள் மீது எலும்பு மாலையையும், சடையில் கங்கையையும் தரித்து நடனம் புரிபவரும்,

தோகை பங்க ரோடு சூது மொழிவோனே ... மயில் போன்ற பார்வதியின் பக்கத்தில் இருப்பவருமாான சிவபெருமானுக்கு ரகசியப் பிரணவப் பொருளை உபதேசித்தவனே,

பாரை உண்ட மாயன் வேயை ஊதி ... இப்பூமியை உண்டவனான மாயவன், மூங்கில் புல்லாங் குழலை ஊதியவன்,

பண்டு பாவலோர்கள் பாடல் கண்டு ஏகும் மாலின் மருகோனே ... முன்பு, (திருமழிசை ஆழ்வார் ஆகிய) புலவர்களின் பாடலைக் கேட்டு மகிழ்ந்து (பின்னர் அவர்களின் வேண்டுகோளுக்கு இரங்கி) அவர்கள் பின்பு செல்பவனாகிய திருமாலின்* மருகனே,

பாதகங்கள் வேறி நூறி ... பாபங்களைக் குலைத்துப் பொடி செய்து,

நீதியின் சொல் வேத வாய்மை பாடும் ... நீதிச் சொற்களைக் கொண்டு வேத உண்மைகளையே எடுத்துப் பாடுகின்ற

அன்பர் வாழ்வதான பெருமாளே. ... அன்பர்களுக்குச் செல்வமாக விளங்கும் பெருமாளே.

* காஞ்சியில் கணிகண்டன் என்ற சீடனைப் பெற்றிருந்த திருமழிசை ஆழ்வார், ஒருமுறை மன்னனால் கணிகண்டன் அநியாயமாக நாடுகடத்தப்பட்டபோது, தாமும் நாடு துறந்ததோடு, பெருமாளையும் காஞ்சியை விட்டு வரும்படியாகப் பாடினார். அவ்வாறே பெருமாளும் ஆழ்வாரின் பின்னே சென்றார்.

neeLum angamAgi mAya uyirURi: long limbs are attached, and like a magic, life is infused into them.

nEsam ondru thAdhai thAyar Asai koNda pOdhil mEvi: My beloved father and mother once fell in so much love that I was conceived.

needhi ondru bAlanAgi azhivAy vandhu: I was raised as a very disciplined boy but later followed a very destructive path.

Urum inba vAzhvum Agi Unam ondrilAdhu: I enjoyed every pleasure that was to be enjoyed in life and had nothing to complain about.

mAdharOdu chinthai vEdai kUra uRavAgi: To my heart's content, I revelled in the company of women amorously.

Uzhi yaindha kAla mEdhi yOnum vandhu pAsam veesa: At the designated final moment predetermined by fate, Yaman (God of Death), mounting his vehicle, buffalo, would come promptly to throw the rope (of attachment) around me,

Unudambu mAyu mAyam ozhiyAdhO: and this body of flesh is bound to perish; will that magic cycle ever end?

sUran aNdalOka mEnmai sURai koNdu pOy vidAdhu: To prevent the demon SUran from running away abducting the honour of the entire world,

thOgaiyin kaNmEvi vElai vidumveerA: You mounted the pretty peacock and wielded Your spear, Oh valorous One!

thOL ilenbu mAlai vENimeedhu gangai sUdi Adu: He adorns His shoulders with a garland of bones and His tress with the river Ganga; He dances the cosmic dance;

thOgai pangarOdu sUdhu mozhivOnE: He is the Cosort of PArvathi, the pretty peacock-like Goddess; to that Lord SivA You preached the most secret ManthrA (PraNava)!

pArai uNda mAyan vEyai Udhi: He is the Lord who swallowed the entire world; He plays on the bamboo flute;

paNdu pAvalOrgaL pAdal kaNdu Egu mAlin marugOnE: once, He was so enamoured of the songs of His devoted poets (such as Thirumazhisai AzhwAr*) that He went with them upon their beckoning; You are the nephew of that Lord Vishnu!

pAthakangaL vERi nURi: They destroy all unrighteous things, rendering them to pieces,

needhi insol vEdha vAymai pAdum: and sing songs composed only with the righteous words upholding the truth of the VEdAs;

anbar vAzhvadhAna perumALE.: You are the Treasure of such devotees, Oh Great One!

* In KAnchipuram, once Thirumazhisai ALwAr lived with his disciple, KaNikaNdan. When the king banished KaNikaNdan unjustly, ALwAr not only accompanied his disciple away from the country but also sang a song to Lord Vishnu beckoning Him to leave the country with them. The Lord complied with the request and left KAnchipuram following His devotees.
