......... Meaning .........

mathan ikku athu kodu pathumap puthu malar malaiyap pada vidu valiyAlE: Because of the pain she suffers from the impact of the new lotus arrow shot aggressively by Manmathan (God of Love) from his bow of sugar-cane,

vanam mutRina vaLai ina(m) niththila malai valaiyaththu ukaL vaLai kadalAlE: and because of the curvy sea on whose wavy whirlpools beautiful pearls from bunches of conch-shells are strewn;

vithanap padu(m) mathi vathanak kodi aRa veruvip parimaLa aNai meethE: my daughter, with a face like the sorrowing moon and a waist like the creeper vanji (rattan reed), is very scared and lying on the aromatic bed (sleeplessly);

meliyak kalai thalai kulaiyath thakum ini viraiyak kura alar thara vENum: Is it fair that she should weaken becoming thinner and that her attire, as well as her hair, should become dishevelled? Now at least, kindly grant her Your fragrant kurA garland!

puthan aic chathu muka vithi acchuthan ethir punaiviththavar thozhu kazhal veerA: As the four-faced BrahmA and Lord VishNu witnessed, He wore on His matted hair the crescent moon, father of Mercury (Bhudhan); that Lord SivA prostrated at Your hallowed feet, Oh valorous One!

poru kaic chari vari perukac cheRivuRu punam meyk kuRa makaL maNavALA: She wears a row of bangles on her arm aptly; She lives in the millet-field with full grown crops of grain clustering together; She is the truthful damsel of the KuRavAs; and You are the consort of that VaLLi!

muthu nal saravaNam athanil satha thaLa muLarip pathi thanil uRaivOnE: You are seated on the hundred-petalled lotus in the old and holy pond of SaravaNa and in Madhurai, the city with the golden lotus pond, Oh Lord!

muthumaik kadal adal asurap padai keda mudukip pora va(l)la perumALE.: You are capable of swiftly fighting with the armies of the demons flocking the old sea and killing them all, Oh Great One!

This song has been written in the Nayaka-Nayaki BhAva where the poet has assumed the role of a mother portraying the pangs of separation of her daughter from Lord Murugan.
The Love God, the flowery arrows and the wavy sea are some of the sources which aggravate the agony of separation from the Lord.
