......... Meaning .........

Olai thariththa kuzhaikkum appuRam Odi: Their eyes run along well beyond the swinging ear-studs;

niRaththu matharththu neyththa aRal Othi nizhaRkuL aLi kulaththudan onRi: they resemble the horde of beetles swarming around the bright, lush, fragrant, greasy and blacksand-like hair;

njAnam Othi mikuththa thavaththavarkku idar Okai seluththi vaduppaduththu: even the great sages who have mastered scriptures of knowledge are haunted (by those eyes) giving them pleasure and misery alternately and leaving an indelible scar in their heart;

aki Udu vidaththai iruththi vaiththa kaN ampinAlE: with these arrow-like eyes filled with poison from the cobra,

mAlai mayakkai viLaiththu nal poruL vAsa mulaikkuL akappaduththi: they provoke passion in the mind of their suitors and grab their valuable belongings wielding their powerful and scented bosom;

il vA ena mutRi nadaththi uL pukum antha mAthar: by inviting them to their place, these whores usher them inside their houses and bind them completely;

mAya mayakkai ozhiththu meththena vAnavarukku aruL utRa akshara vAymai enakkum iniththu aLiththu aruL thanthidAthO: Will you not wipe out my passionate desire and kindly grant me with pleasure the truthful principle of the six-lettered ManthrA (saravaNabava), which You aptly preached to the Celestials?

vElai adaikka ari kulaththodu vENum ena so (l)lum akkaNaththinil: The moment it was declared that a bridge had to be built over the sea with the help of the multitude of monkeys,

vEkamodu appu malai kulaththai naLan kai mElE veesa avatRinai oppam ittu aNai mEvi arakkar pathikkuL muRpada: the architect-monkey, naLan, hurriedly kept on casting heaps of mountains that were attached in a series forming the bridge; through that bridge, the army of monkeys advanced to LankA, the region occupied by the demons;

veedaNanukku aruL vaiththu avan thamaiyankaL mALa: there Lord RAmA bestowed His blessings on VibheeshaNan whose older brothers, RAvaNan and KumbakarNan, were destroyed

kAl ayil ak kaNai thotta aruL kanamAl amaithik karaiyil thariththu ulaku ALa aLiththa praputhva aruL kadal thantha kAman: by the sharp arrows wielded by the gracious and valorous Lord RAmA; He stood steadfastly on the serene shore of the ocean of compassion and magnanimously offered the land to be ruled (by VibheeshaNan); that Lord VishNu delivered Manmathan (God of Love) as His son;

kAyam ozhiththavar petRa kotRava: the body of that Manmathan was charred by the fiery eyes of Lord SivA; and You are that SivA's son, Oh valorous One!

nAnila viththa thinaip punaththu oru kAthal mikuththu mika pramiththu aruL thampirAnE.: The millet seeds that were implanted in the field (in VaLLimalai) flourished, and in that field You developed a matchless desire and great passion for VaLLi who was blessed by You, Oh Great One!
