......... Meaning .........

uRavu singikaL kAma AkArikaL muRai masangikaL AsA vEsikaL: They mischievously invent relationship and babble on. They are the receptacles of passion. They address their suitors fondly (like uncle and cousin) and charm them. These whores are given to voluptuous designs.

uthadu kanRikaL nANA veeNikaL naka rEkai udaiya kongaiyin meethE thUsikaL: Their lips are sore (due to excessive abuse). They are shameless and useless. They cover their bosom, scarred with marks of finger-nails, with a garment.

piNam enum padi pEy neerAkiya uNavai uNdu udai sOr kOmALikaL: They become like dead bodies when they drink the intoxicating liquor and revel in frolic, loosening their attire.

kadal njAlaththu aRavu nenju po(l)lA mA pAvikaL: In this vast earth surrounded by seas, they are the worst sinners with the most evil mind.

vaRumai thanthidu pAzh mUthEvikaL: They are the ruinous goddesses of adversity (mUthEvi), who bring forth poverty.

aNi nerungikaL AsA pAshaNa mada mAthar azhaku uyarntha poy mAyA rUpikaL: They wear the ornaments tightly. These young whores indulge in provocative talks. They excel in beauty, their figure being illusory.

kalavi inpamE enAvE sOruthal alam alam thadumARAthu Or kathi aruLvAyE: I have been weakened after repeatedly seeking the pleasure of union with them. Enough is enough. I do not wish to be baffled like this any more, therefore, kindly show me the matchless righteous path!

paRavai enkiRa kUdAr mU araN muRai idum thamar vAnOr thEr ari pakazhi kunRa(m) vi(l)lAlE neeRu ezha: The Thiripurams, who were the enemies of the DEvAs had the ability to fly; when the celestials complained about their cruelty, He used the DEvAs as the chariot, Lord VishNu as the arrow, and Mount MEru as the bow and burnt down (the Thiripurams) into ashes (by His mere smile); devoted to that Lord SivA,

oru mUvar patha(m) ninainthu vidAthE thAL peRa aruL purintha pirAnAr mA pathi paravu kantha suvAmee: a matchless trio* in Thiripuram, who were constantly meditating upon the hallowed feet of that Lord, were graciously blessed to attain the shade of His feet; that Lord SivA adores You, Oh Lord KanthA!

kAnakam athil mEvum kuRavar thangaL pirAnE: You are the Leader of the KuRavAs who dwell in the forest, Oh Lord!

mA maram neRu neRu enRu adi vErOdu nilai kulaiya venRi koL vElE Eviya puya veerA: When the demon SUran took the disguise of a mango tree, You uprooted that tree which shook and collapsed with a thud by wielding the victorious spear in Your hallowed hand, Oh valorous One!

kuyilkaL anRilkaL kUkUkU ena malarkaL pongiya thEn veezh kAmisai: In the grove where cuckoos and krouncha birds make cooing sound and where honey oozes from the blossomed flowers,

kuRavar sunthariyOdE kUdiya perumALE.: You united with VaLLi, the beautiful damsel of the KuRavAs, Oh Great One!

* Three demons named VidhyunmAli, ThArakAtchan and KamalAkshan created in the sky three floating islands made of gold, silver and iron (collectively called Thiripuram). They were falling all over people in the world, harassing and killing them. When Lord SivA burnt them down, He spared three of their residents who were totally devoted to the Lord. Two of them became the guards of SivA's temple and the third one became the temple's drummer.
