......... Meaning .........

AalAlaththai azhuththiya vEl pOl nal kuzhaiyaip poruthu: Those eyes look like a spear that contains the poison AalakAlam; they extend right up to the beautiful dangling ear-studs as if to wage war with them;

AakAraith thodar kaikku eNum vizhiyAlE: they follow indifferent people right through in order to catch their attention; by such eyes of the whores

AaLA matRavar sutRida meeLAmal thalaiyittu: when people are ensnared, and while the victims are surrounding them, they make sure that the trapped ones are unable to get out;

aRivAr pOkac cheyal vicchaikaL vilaikURi: they play their tricks of trade for a price so cleverly that the victims lose their sense of judgment;

kOlAlam kaNam ittu varAthAr nekku uruka: they exhibit all their glamour in a moment leaving them with a broken heart and a melting mind;

poruL kURAkap peRil niRkavum ilathu AnAr: if they receive only a portion of what they solicited, they would just disappear from the scene, let alone having a conversation with them;

kUdA natpum uraiththidu kEdu A(ka) vittu akal mattaikaL: they are vain people who show only superficial friendship rather than true amity; they simply leave their patrons to fall into their destruction; these whores are such sinners;

kOmALath thuyar udpayam uRalAmO: is it fair that I suffer the miserable fear that results from all their mirth?

pAlAm akkadalil thuyil mAlOr ettuth thalaik kiripAl: All the celestials headed by VishNu, who slumbers on the milky ocean, marched towards Mount KailAsh;

pArvaikku aLavittum aiyuRu pOthil: they let their eyes wander over that mountain (wondering what happened to the mission they all entrusted to Manmathan to shoot arrows on Lord SivA); when they were doubting the outcome,

pAr mEl ikkan udal poRiyAy veezhas sudum viththakar pAlA: Manmathan's charred body, along with his bow of sugarcane, fell on the earth in sparks and flames; he was thus burnt down by the wisest Lord SivA; and You are the child of that SivA!

paththar idaththu iyal payilvOnE: You move with Your devotees with spontaneous love, Oh Lord!

mEl Ayaththodu thikku adai mEvAr veRpodu arakkarai vEr mALap poruthitta oLi vidum vElA: Once, when enemies in the form of demons filled up all the four directions, You annihilated them all, along with Mount Krouncha where they lived and their seven hills, by fighting with Your dazzling spear, Oh Lord!

mEl nAdarc chiRai vittu aruL meeLA vikkiramaththodu vEthAvaic chiRai ittu aruL perumALE.: You graciously liberated the celestials from their prison; with inexhaustible valour, You first imprisoned Lord BrahmA with undiminished valour and later bestowed Your grace upon Him, Oh Great One!
