karuvAy vayitRil uruvAy uthiththu murukAy manak kavalaiyOdE: Having been conceived in a mother's womb, taking shape to be born as a child, reaching adulthood, feeling miserable,

kalai nUl pithatRi naduvE kaRuththa thalai pOy veLuththu mariyAthE: studying worthwhile texts of art without proper understanding and in a state of utter confusion, witnessing in mid-life the greying of the erstwhile black hair and ultimately dying as a total waste - I do not want to go away like this;

iru pOthum matRai oru pOthum itta kanal mUzhki mikka punal mUzhki: (instead), everyday, both in the morning and the evening, and at the noon time, I wish to immerse myself in the primordial fire* raised by the method of Siva-yOgA and drown in the holy water of pure Ganga in the lunar zone (within myself)* created through the penance of Siva-yOgA; to be able to do that,

arum Athapaththa amarA pathikku vazhi mUdi vittu: They (the demons) first blocked the entrance to the golden land of the celestials who are uniquely self-luminous;

athanai meeLa ayirAvathaththu vizhi Ayiraththan udanE pidiththu mudiyAthE: then they attacked their land again in order to immediately incarcerate the thousand-eyed IndrA, the leader of the white elephant, AirAvadham; being unable to do so,

thiruvAna kaRpa tharu nAdu azhiththu: they devastated the land of the DEvAs, which has the unique (wish-yielding) KaRpaga tree, by setting fire to it;

vipu thEsar sutRam avai kOli(ththu): they surrounded all the celestials, including the high ranking ones and their kin,

thidamOdu arakkar kodu pOy adaiththa siRai meeLa vitta perumALE.: and forcibly took them to the prison and locked them up; from the shackles fettered by the demons, You liberated the celestials (and redeemed for them their land), Oh Great One!
