muththu nava rathna maNi paththi niRai saththi idam moyththa kiri: "He is like a mountain on whose left side DEvi PArvathi is concorporate, adorned with rows of pearls and nine precious gems;

muththi tharu ena Othum mukkaN iRaivarkkum aruL vaiththa murukak kadavuL: He is the sacred tree that grants the fruit of Liberation; He is the three-eyed Lord SivA" - so on and so forth that Lord is praised; to that SivA, Lord Murugan kindly preached!

muppathu muvarkka surar adi pENi: When all the celestials of thirtythree* kinds prostrated at His feet,

paththu mudi thaththum vakai utRa kaNi vitta ari: Lord VishNu (as RAmA) shot His arrow knocking down the ten heads (of RAvaNA);

paRkunanai vetRi peRa ratham Urum: the same Lord VishNu (as KrishNA) drove the chariot for ArjunA making him the victor in the (MahAbhArathA) war;

pacchai niRam utRa puyal accham aRa vaiththa poruL: He is of the hue of greenish dark cloud; that VishNu was terrified of the demons (SUrapathman, Singamukan and ThArakan); and You are the Lord who removed His fear, Oh MurugA!

paththar manathu utRa sivam aruLvAyE: Kindly grant me the bliss that prevails in the hearts of all Your devotees!

thiththimithi thiththimithi thikkukuku thikkukuku theyththathena theythathathena thenanAna thikkuvena maththaLam idakkaithudi: (To this meter) the drums, idakkai (a percussion instrument made of leather beaten only by the left hand) and udukkai (hand-drums) were beaten;

thaththathaku seccharikai seccharikai yenaAdum: He danced to the meter of "thaththathaku seccharikai seccharikai"

aththanudan oththa nadani thripuvanaththi navasiththi aruL saththi aruL puribAlA: synchronising with that dance of Father SivA, She too dances; She is the primordial Goddess of the three worlds; She is PArvathi who bestows fresh boons on Her devotees; You are Her child, Oh Lord!

kanaka pathma puri perumALE.: this is Madhurai, famous for its Golden Lotus Tank; and it is Your abode, Oh Great One!
