......... Meaning .........

mAli nAle duththa kanthal: This body is nothing but a tattered piece of cloth with holes, made out of desire;

sORi nAlva Larththa ponthi: this body is built up by cooked rice;

mARi yAde duththasi nthai: the mind keeps on vacillating with so many thoughts;

aniyAya mAyai yAle duththu mangi nEn: all these (the body, the mind and thoughts) I acquired in this world due to unfair delusion, and I am deteriorating day by day.

aiyAe nakki rangi vArai yA: Oh Lord, will you please take pity and come down to see me?

yi nippi Ranthu iRavAmal: Let me not go through the cycle of birth and death;

vEli nAlvi naikka NangkaL thULa thAe riththu: for that, please shoot Your spear to destroy the mass of my bad deeds

unRan veedu thA: and grant me Your Kingdom of blissful liberation!

pariththa anpar kaNamUdE mEvi: I should mingle with the crowd of all Your kind devotees.

yAn unaippol sinthai yAka vE kaLiththu: My mind should become as pure as Yourself and rejoice

kantha vELe yAmenappa rinthu aruLvAyE: concluding that Lord KandhA is the only solace for me; for that, You will have to bestow Your grace on me!

kAli nAle napparantha sUrar mALa: The demons, who had spread as if blown all over by the wind, died;

vetRi koNda kAla pAnu saththi yangkai murukOnE: the victory was due to the Sakthi VEL (Spear of Energy), which was fierce like the Death-God and dazzling like the sun. You held it in Your lovely hand, Oh Muruga,

kAma pANa mattu anantha kOdi mAtha raippuNarntha: He (Krishna) was struck by the flowery arrows of Manmathan (Love God)* and wedded thousands of women;

kALai yERu karththa nenthai yaruLbAlA: He, as Vishnu, took the form of a Bull** on whom mounted our Lord SivA; and You are that SivA's child!

sElai nErvi zhikkuRampeN Asai thOLu RappuNarnthu: Her eye is like a fish; She is the damsel of the KuRavAs; You fell in love with that VaLLi and hugged her shoulders!

seerai yOthu paththa ranpi luRaivOnE: You dwell in the love of Your devotees who praise Your glory!

thEvar mAthar siththar thoNdar Eka vELu rukku kantha: The celestials, the women, the saints and the devotees all flock towards PuLLirukku VeLUr (Vytheeswaran Koyil), which is Your favourite place!

sEval kEthu sutRu kantha perumALE.: You relish Your staff of the Rooster, Oh Great One!

* When Krishna killed NarakAsura, He took away with Him the Mount of MantharA on whose peak were imprisoned thousands of celestial and gandharva women. Krishna kept His promise of wedding them all and eventually, ruled the Kingdom of Dwaraka - Vishnu PurANam.

** When Lord SivA was preparing to invade Thripuram, His chariot broke down. At that time, Vishnu took the form of Rishabha (Bull) and offered Himself as the vehicle for SivA to mount on - Siva PurANam.
