pU mAdhura mEyaNi mAn: Vishnu, Who wears Sri Lakshmi, seated on the lotus, on His chest,
maRai vAy nAl udaiyOn: BrahmA, the four-mouthed, Who recites the VEdAs (Scripture),
mali vAnavar kOmAn: IndrA, the Leader of the Celestials,
munivOr mudhal yArum: sages and all others
pOrAl maRai vAyuRu beethiyin: went into hiding frightened by the battling demons.
iyambu vEdham pUrAya madhAy mozhi nUlgaLum ArAyvadhi lAthada lAsurar: Those mighty demons did not explore the holy Texts that seek to explain the essence of the spoken VEdAs.
vandhu kUdi: All those assembled, terror-stricken,
neemARaru LAyena eesanai: entreated Lord SivA, to bless them with an adversary to destroy the inimical demons,
pA mAlaigaLAl thozhudhE: by worshipping SivA with garlands of poems and prayed
thiruneeRAr tharu mEniya: "Oh Lord! Lustrous is Your body sprinkled with the sacred ash!
thEn iyal kondRaiyodu: With honey-filled kondRai (Indian laburnum) flowers
neerErtharu jAnavi mAmadhi: Jhanvi* (River Ganga) beautified by water, the great crescent moon,
kAkOdhara mAdhuLai kUviLai: the cobra, the pomegranate flower, leaves of vilwa,
nErOdam viLA mudhalAr sadai empirAnE: nAval and viLA, Your tresses are elegant, Oh our Lord!
pOmARini vERedhu vOdhenavE: You alone are our solace. Do we have any other refuge but you?"
Ar aruLAl avaree tharu pOrvElava: Out of boundless compassion, SivA gave You, Oh VElavA, (to the tormented world!)
neela kalAviyi varndhu: Muruga, You mounted on the blue-feathered Peacock,
needubUlOkamo dEyaRu lOkamu: flew around the earth and six other worlds
nErOr nodiyE varu vOy: and returned in just a moment!
surasEnApathi AyavanE: You became the Commander-in-Chief of the Celestials!

kAmAvaRu sOma samAnana: "Oh Lord, You are handsome as Manmathan (Love God), Your six faces match six full moons,
dhAmA manamAr tharu neepa: You wear the fragrant kadappa garlands,
