......... Meaning .........

poR chithrap pacchaip pattuk kacchu ittuk kattip pathmap putpaththukku oppak kaRpiththu: Imagining that the bosom, tightly compressed by a fitting blouse made of beautiful and unique silk, is comparable to the lotus,

iLainjOrkaL puL pattu seppaththup pal koththa: these young men fall prey, like birds, into the net spread by the whores and even get bitten by their neat row of teeth;

pon thiththath thitpap poRpil petRu ukrac chakrath thanam mAnAr: those women, with bosom like round and evil wheels, are capable of smooth and matured speech in order to fleece out gold;

kal siththac chuththap poyp piththu aththil pukku ittappattuk kaik kuththittu ittic chutRith thiriyAmal: their heart is hard like stone, and trying to passionately enter that maddening delusion which is nothing but a total myth, sometimes one ends up in bouts of wrestling (vying with other suitors who also visit there); I do not wish to roam about like that;

katRu utRuc chiththikkaikkuc chiththippap paxaththil sol kaRpiththu oppiththuk kotRak kazhal thArAy: I wish to speak Your glory alone; kindly bless me with realisation and the ability to conceive the choicest words to praise You; and grant me Your triumphant and hallowed feet giving me the ability to recite such words!

kuRchiththuk kottuk kottuth thukka acchaththukku: It is so frustrated due to the lack of nourishment that it stays awake with hunger, agony and fear;

kukkuk kukkukkuk kukkuk kukkuk ena mARA kutchikkup pakshaikkaikkuk kakshaththil patchaththu aththak kotti: it continually crows like "kukkuk kukkukkuk kukkuk kukkuk" yearning for food, beating the two sides of its stomach with its feathers;

chuttik kokrik kukkuda thAri: that Rooster makes a significant and shrill noise; and You have placed it on Your staff, Oh Lord!

saR chiththuth thol puththip patcha aththarkku oppiththu: He is immortal, omniscient, primordial and full of knowledge; He is Your beloved Father, Lord SivA; and You preached to Him, Oh Lord!

atcha(ra)ththuc chaththaththaith saththik kocchaip pathi vAzhvE: You came as ThirugnAna Sambandhar in the powerful place SeegAzhi and sang the ThEvaram hymns, giving divine sound to letters!

thaksha(sam) patRuk kerppaththil sel patRaic chetRitta: This desire, capable of catching like wild-fire, could enter the body right from the womb; such a desire (for women, earth, and gold) is eradicated in

ucchac chaRpap potRaikkuL chokkap perumALE.: the lofty mountain of the Serpent (NAgamalai, also known as ThiruchchengkOdu*) which is Your abode, Oh Handsome and Great One!

* ThiruchchengkOdu is in SAlem District of Tamil NAdu, 6 miles away from Sankaridurgam railway station.
As the mount is reddish in colour, the name ThiruchchengkOdu -Red Hill- was given.

In Kandhar AlangkAram, Saint AruNagirinAthar sings about ChenkOdan (Murugan): to see His beauty, he wishes BrahmA, the Creator, had blessed him with 4,000 eyes!
