......... Meaning .........

mEkam enum kuzhal sAyththu iru kOkanam kodu kOththu: Letting loose their cloud-like dark hair to be carried in the breeze, they hook with their gripping lotus-like eyes and

aNai mEl vizhukinRa parAkkinil udai sOra: knock down (their suitors) on the bed; in that playful game, their attire loosens;

mEkalaiyum thani pOyth thaniyE karaNangaLum Ayk kayal vEl vizhiyum kuviyA: the waist-band mEkalai comes apart; all their sensory organs act in unison; their eyes like the fish and the spear flutter and close;

kural mayil kAdai kOkilam enRu ezha pOyk kani vAy amuthu uNdu: their voice sounds like those of the peacock, the kAdai (mynah-like bird) and the cuckoo; while I imbibe the nectar of saliva oozing from their lips that look like red kovvai fruits,

urukAk kaLi kUra udan piriyAk kalaviyil mUzhkik kUdi muyangi: melt with immense delight in their company, enjoy intimate union that knows of no separation, hug them tightly,

vidAyththu iru thanangaLin mEl thuyil kUrinum ampuya thALthuNai maRavEnE: get exhausted and slumber for a while upon their big bosom, still I would never forget my safe haven, namely, Your two hallowed lotus-feet, Oh Lord!

mOkara thunthumi Arppa virAli vilangkalin veettathil mU ulakum thozhuthu Eththida uRaivOnE: Against the background sound of the loud beating of the drums, You are seated in the temple in VirAlimalai* as the people of the three worlds worship You, Oh Lord!

mU thisai munpu oru kAl thada mEruvai ampinil veezhththiya mOkana: Once, in the northern direction, You knocked down the Mount MEru with an arrow-like weapon (cheNdu**), Oh Gorgeous One!

sanga ari vAzhththida mathiyAmal Akam madinthida vEl koNdu cUranai venRu: As Lord VishNu who holds the conch-shell in His hand praised Your valour, You defeated the demon SUran in a dismissive manner by destroying his body with Your spear;

adal pOyththaNi yAmaiyin venRu: (on a victory march) You went to the war and thoroughly defeated (the demons);

avanAl piRakidu thEvar Athi iLanthalai kAththu arasALa avan siRai meettu: You protected Jayanthan, the son of IndrA, who ran away after being persecuted and terrorised by SUran; You freed him from the prison so that he could regain the celestial land

avan AL ulakam kudi EtRiya perumALE.: and You reinstated him to rule that divine kingdom, Oh Great One!

* KOnAdu is the region west of Mount eRumbeesar, east of MathiRkarai, south of River KAvEri and north of PirAnmalai; VirAlimalai is in this area situated 20 miles from Tiruchi on the route to Madhurai, near MaNappARai.

** When Murugan incarnated as PANdiya King, Ugra Vazhudhi, there was an unprecedented famine in Madhurai. In order to bring gold from Mount Meru, the King went up to the mount and prayed. As the mount was not yielding the gold, the King was enraged and wielded his weapon, cheNdu, upon it and obtained gold.
