* VaLLi sanmArkkam is the method of meditation in which one contemplates on the Lord with total devotion (selflessly and without any possessiveness) whereupon the Lord comes forward to bless such a devotee; this method of meditation was preached to Lord SivA by Murugan.

** vallai means kshaNam - instant; As Murugan preached to SivA instantaneously, ThiruththaNigai has another name called ThirukshaNigai.

*** VaLLimalai is in North Arcot District 12 miles southeast of Roya VelUr, slightly north of Thiruvallam. This is the hill where VaLLi was found as a baby by the tribe of hunters.
