......... Meaning .........

mozhiya niRamkaRuththu makara inamkalakki mudiya vaLainthu aratRu kadalAlum: Because of the sea that has become notoriously black and stirred up by multitude of makara fish, makes a roaring noise, surrounding all available space,

muthira vidam parappi vadavai mukanthu azhaRkuL muzhuki ezhunthirukku nilavAlum: and because of the moon in its waxing phase spreading poison everywhere through its rays, that dips deep into the vadavA mukAgni (the inferno that spreads from the north pole on the doom's day at the end of the aeon) and comes out after immersing in fire,

mazhai aLakam thariththa kodiyidai vanjiyutRa mayal thaNi yumpadikku ninaivAyE: this girl of mine, with hair like the dark cloud and a waistline like the creeper vanji (rattan reed), is suffering due to pangs of separation from You; kindly consider alleviating her suffering

marakatha thungavetRi vikada nadangoL sithra mayilinil vanthu muththi tharavENum: by granting her liberation on coming to her, mounted on the graceful peacock having greenish hue, purity and victory and which dances beautifully!

azhakiya menkuRaththi puLakitha santhanaththin amutha thanampadaiththa thirumArpA: She is the beautiful and soft KuRavA girl; You hug, with Your hallowed chest, the exhilarated bosom of that VaLLi, which is smeared with sandal paste and nectar!

amarar puranthanakkum azhakiya senthilukkum aruNai vaLampathikkum iRaiyOnE: You are the Deity of amarAvathi, the capital of the celestial land, beautiful ThiruchchendhUr and the prosperous town of ThiruvaNNAmalai, Oh Lord!

ezhu puvanam pizhaikka asurar sirantheRikka ezhu sayilam thoLaiththa sudarvElA: To protect the seven worlds, You wielded the bright spear that shattered the heads of the demons and pierced through the seven mountains, Oh Lord!

iravikaL antharaththar ariyara pangayaththar ivarkaL payanthavirththa perumALE.: The AdhityAs (sons of adhithi), the celestials, Lord VishNu, Rudran and BrahmA, seated on the lotus, were all relieved when You allayed their fear, Oh Great One!

This song is based on the Nayaka-Nayaki Bhavam, where the poet, assuming the heroine's mother's role, expresses the pang of separation from the hero, Murugan. The roaring sea and the moon are a few of the things that aggravate the agony of separation.
