......... Meaning .........

mUpputRuc chevi kEtpatRa: Becoming very old, having lost the hearing ability,

peru mUchchutru seyal thadumARi: heaving long sighs, faltering in every movement,

mUrkka soR kural kAtti: the voice betraying a very foul temper with harsh words,

kakkida mUkkukkuL saLi iLaiyOdum kOppuk katti: the mucus from the nose mixing with the phlegm from the chest, oozing uncontrollably,

inAp pichchetRidu: and the misery and madness knowing no bounds,

kUttil pukkuyir alaiyAmun: I do not want that kind of a body in which my life is going to be battered.

kUtRath thaththuva neekki: You must remove the inevitability of death in the hands of Yaman (Death-God)

poRkazhal kUtti satraruL purivAyE: and show me just a little grace so that I could attain Your lotus feet!

kAppu poRgiri kOtti: The guarding boundary in the North, Mount MEru, was bent by Him like a bow!

patRalar kAppai kattavar gurunAthA: He then destroyed the fortresses of the enemies at Thiripuram. He was SivA, and You are His Master!

kAttukkuL kuRavAttikku: To VaLLi, the damsel of the KuRavAs in the forest,

pala kAppuk kuththira mozhivOnE: You spoke several cajoling words as if You needed her protection!

vAypputrath thamizh mArgaththil: In an appropriate interpretation of the Tamil composition dealing with the Lord,

poruL vAykku chiththira murugOnE: You (as Rudrasanman)* gave the true meaning marvellously, Oh MurugA!

vArththai siRpara: You are beyond the comprehension of speech and intellect!

theerththa sutr alaivAykuL: In ThiruchcheeralaivAy (ThiruchchendhUr), surrounded by holy waters,

poRpamar perumALE.: You have Your lovely abode, Oh Great One!

* In Madhurai, SivA as SokkanAthar composed the poetical work 'iRaiyanAr agapporuL'. While several poets fought to claim credit for their interpretations, Murugan came as Rudrasanman and declared that the true meaning was conveyed in Nakkeerar's work - ThiruviLaiyAdal PurANam.
