......... Meaning .........

manRalang konthumisai thenthanath thenthanena vaNdinang kaNduthodar kuzhalmAthar: The women with beautiful hair are wearing fragrant flowers around which the beetles hum seeking honey.

maNdidun thoNdaiyamuthuNdu koNdu: I think of savouring the lovely juicy lips of those women;

anpumika vampidung kumpakana thanamArpil onRa: I also think of passionately cojoining their large bosoms with my chest;

amponRuvizhi kanRa ang kangkuzhaiya: I want to see their arrow-like eyes droop in ecstacy and limbs melt;

unthiyen kinRamadu vizhuvEnai: and I drown myself in the pond of their navel. You have to redeem me and

unsilam pungkanaka thaNdaiyung kiNkiNiyum oNkadam pumpunaiyum adisErAy: lead me to Your Lotus Feet adorned with anklets, golden chain with jingling beads and beautiful kadappa flowers!

panRiyang kompu kamadam puyangkam: (He wears on His chest) the horn of boar*, tortoise shell**, snakes,

surarkaL paNdai yenp angkamaNi pavarsEyE: DEvAs' old bones+ and skeletons; He is SivA and You are His Son!

panjarang konjukiLi vanthuvanthu: The talking parrots in the golden cages come out repeatedly and say

ainthukara paNdithan thampiyenum vayalUrA: "You are the younger brother of VinAyagA, the Wizard of Knowledge"; and You belong to VayalUr!

senRumun kunRavarkaL thanthapeN koNdu: Once, You wedded VaLLi, the damsel of the hunting KuRavAs who lived in the hillside and offered their daughter in marriage to You!

vaLar seNpakam paimponmalar seRisOlai: There is a dense grove around this hill, with tall sheNbaga (champak) trees showering golden yellow flowers;

thingaLum sengkathiru mangkulun thangkumuyar: and this hill is so tall that the sun, the moon and the clouds hover around its peaks at

thenparang kunRiluRai perumALE.: beautiful ThiruparankundRam which is Your abode, Oh Great One!

* Vishnu took the VarAha avathAram -Boar- to destroy Demon HiranyAkshA and to redeem Mother Earth. Then, the raging Boar became uncontrollably wild. It was conquered by Murugan who gave the horn of the boar as a souvenir to Lord SivA - VarAha PurANam.

** In KUrmAvathAram, Vishnu came as a tortoise to support Mount Manthara for churning the milky ocean. After Vishnu took the form of Mohini to distribute Amirtham -Divine Nectar-, Hariharaputhran -Ayyappan- was born. The tortoise became so conceited that it created a havoc in the universe. Upon SivA's command, Ayyappan defeated the wild tortoise and presented its shell as a souvenir to SivA for display on His chest - KUrma PurANam.

+ When the entire universe faced extinction during PraLayA, SivA performed Sarva SamhAram - total destruction. However, He kindly took the bones and skeletons of DEvAs and wore them on His chest - Kandha PurANam.
